China has created a stir in the Internet world.

China has achieved a major milestone in advanced internet technology by launching the world’s first commercial 10-gigabit (10G) broadband network.

State-owned China Unicom and technology giant Huawei launched their joint network in Sonan County, Hebei Province.

The new system (which uses 50G passive optical network, PON technology) improves the data transfer speed and efficiency of existing fiber-optic cables to unprecedented levels.

Test results showed that the system achieved a download speed of 9,834 megabits per second, an upload speed of 1,008 megabits per second, and a latency of just 3 milliseconds, which is 10 times better than traditional 1G broadband.

10G broadband service will open the way for high-bandwidth activities such as Ultra-HD 8K video streaming, virtual and augmented reality experiences, and the smooth operation of smart homes.

This achievement has put China ahead of other countries in the race for internet technology. While countries such as South Korea and the United Arab Emirates have introduced advanced broadband services, China's 10G service is the first of its kind available to the public.
