7,000-year-old alien-like statue discovered for the first time in Kuwait

Archaeologists in Kuwait have discovered a 7,000-year-old clay figurine that resembles a modern-day alien.

The figurine, which looks less human than supernatural, was common in ancient Mesopotamia, but it is the first of its kind to be discovered in Kuwait or the Arabian Gulf.

The figurine, which has slanted eyes, a flat nose and a long, elaborately carved skull, was found during excavations at Bahra 1. Bahra 1 is an archaeological site in northern Kuwait that a joint Kuwaiti-Polish team has been excavating since 2009.

The Bahra 1 site was one of the oldest settlements on the Arabian Peninsula, dating from around 5500 to 4900 BC.

During this time, a culture called the Ubaid settled in Bahra 1, which originated in Mesopotamia and was known for its distinctive pottery, including its figurines of space creatures.
